218 5ª Subserie 213-18 (Rizados)

The curly ones constitute the last series of NEW trams that entered service in Zaragoza, manufactured by Carde and Escoriaza. The first of them entered service on June 10, 1953. The exterior appearance of the bodywork featured eight windows, leaving the central door of its predecessors of the 200 series. Having the sides and the roof of corrugated sheet, they were known by the nickname of the curly. They incorporate four engines of the General electric, Model 719, and trucks of the "Valencia" type, BRILL type 84 E-1, known by the nickname of Valencia, being of this model those that carried the modern "400" of that city. Oerlikon regulator, planned installation of pneumatic circuit for brakes and doors, which would not be completed, except for the part of doors. 2 units are preserved; the 218 in the Azpeitia Museum in assignment of use made by me and the 217 in the province of Zaragoza. Inside I begin to circulate painted light green instead of the usual varnishing of the wood. The 218 has participated in exhibitions on the move (Zaragoza trade fair in 1987) and was about to go to La Coruña in the 90s.
